Gelder, a British actor, succumbed to bile duct cancer on Monday, as announced by his husband and fellow actor Ben Daniels on Instagram. Daniels praised Gelder as a 'wonderful actor' and his unwavering support throughout their 30-year relationship, particularly during Gelder's battle with illness, describing him as an 'absolute rock'.
"He was the kindest, most generous-spirited, and loving human being," wrote Daniels. "He was a wonderful actor, and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and light."
Gelder portrayed Kevan Lannister in five series of Game of Thrones and recently featured in an episode of the BBC One period detective series Father Brown earlier this year.
